Welcome to the first step to finding the
Mattke family’s first hidden Letterbox.

Be ready to exercise your brain a little on this one.

Instead of just giving you the clues up front, you’ll need to decode a few "keys" that are crucial to finding this box.

The clues are cryptic, but shouldn't be too taxing. Wherever we feel you may get stuck, we’ve provided hints you can look at to get past a sticking point. The hints can be real spoilers, so to get the most fun out of this- only look at the clues after you’ve made a genuine effort to solve the puzzle.

Soon, you'll be able to read our letterboxing standards & practices so you won’t get frustrated by a misunderstanding of terms (like what we consider a "pace" and so on). For now, all you need to know for this hide is that all courses are magnetic and a pace is counted one for every other footfall.

The first key you’ll need to unlock before you set out is the name of the location. A free clue is this: it’s within the Austin city limits. (don’t read too much into that clue, it’s not a cryptic one- this location has nothing to do with the PBS television program of that name).

encoded name of park

No, this is not Welsh though it really does look like it. See this if you need a hint decoding the message.
The punctuation stays the same, so your answer will be _ _. _ _ _ _ _ _ ' _

Even if you haven’t solved the first clue, you can work out this one to get the rest of the directions.

Enter the rest of the series in this coded number sequence. It’s soo easy we’ve even done the first two for you. Once you think you’ve entered the right number, click the "Reveal" button and you’ll be taken to the clue page.
